The second batch was composed of volunteers from different
sectors such as the Alpha Company of the Reserved Battalion of the Philippine
Army, Girl Scouts of the Philippines Davao del Sur Council, Safekeepers Team
Cooperative and SMSP Batch 80 who conducted the clean up on the 22nd
of April in two specific mangrove areas. The area was selected because of the many
plastics entangling the roots of the mangroves. The amount of plastics
collected weighs approximately 156.4 kg.
After the activity, volunteers were gathered at the Mangrove
area in San Isidro, which is an adopted site of the organizer, where teach in
about Plastic Pollution was conducted as well as the evaluation of the activity.
Lunch
that was sponsored by Vanvi Construction, JPLN Enterprise and Board Member
Atty. Marivic Diamante were shared by the volunteers. Certificates of
Appreciation were distributed thereafter.
Extended effort for coordination was proffered to the Local Government Unit through the Municipal Environment Office, they failed to collect the trash especially in the schools as what have been agreed upon. With own initiative, we delivered volutrarily our collected trash to the dumping site on that sunday, as not a shadow of the garbage truck was visible.
Overall weight of trash collected was 435.2kg the bulk of which were plastic food wrappers, grocery bags, plastic bottles respectively.
We once again extend our sincerest gratitude to our volunteers and sponsors especially Vanvi Construction, JPLN Enterprise, Ercyl and BM Atty. Marivic Diamante.
