All About Kites

When we think about kite flying, we paint a picture of a sunny cerulean sky, wafting summer breeze, carefree youth and Amorsolo-ish pastoral landscape and as the sun retire in the horizon, sweat dried up caking on the shirts, grime necklace in the cracks of the neck, earthy smell and reaching home after the angelus are the ingredients of trouble.
Growing up with a stringent religiosity, the angelus is an integral part of the community that each members of the family must be at home as the church bell peals or be in trouble, other trouble ensue as the mother discover the missing sewing thread. No amount of ear pinching can erase the kite flying fun of the day. Go to bed with a flashback of the day that has been and subconsciously dream of another kite flying day.

Of all the childhood games we played, kite flying is one that left an indelible mark in our memory. Our first taste of the joy of flying and setting our lofty youthful dreams as far as the kite line permits.

As we enter into the 7th year of the Tabanog Festival, It was observed that Kite Flying is a game that can not hardly be outgrown. Adults are still haunted by its thrill, joy and youthful carefree spirit. By such an event, those beautiful magical memories will keep coming back, enliven, preserve and bring balance between tradition and technology.

Technology has already been encroaching and eroding societal fiber like a thief in the night. Supporting Tabanog Festival is a way of safeguarding the thing we care the most.

"Throw your dreams into space like a kite, and you do not know what it will bring back, a new life, a new friend, a new love, a new country" - Anais Nin
